Putting pen to paper

About

I have one of the coolest gigs around, I get to meet and interview people at the top of their game and write their story. I absolutely love what I do!

A Little About Molly

About

  • I am an award-winning reporter/writer.
  • I am an editor/consultant and a children’s book author.
  • When I’m not writing, I am married to Neil, coming up on 25 years in July 2021. We live in a cute little duplex on the water in Harford County, Maryland.
  • We have a 32-year old son, Cal, and a 5-year old granddaughter, Ellie. Ellie is currently schooling me on how to do videos for TikTok (not really, but she could- she is that good!). Want to know what my number one job is? Being Ellie’s Nans! (That’s what she calls me).

My Network & Community

  • Seven years ago, I began volunteering in the recovery space. I did creative writing workshops and book clubs for four years and other weekly activities with women in recovery. Although my career took me in other directions, I look forward to getting back into that space again. It was some of the best work my heart ever did!
  • I am a proponent of using journaling as a way to cope. I have held workshops to help others express feelings and grow through life.

A Reverse Q & A with Molly!

Molly Lauryssens young

I ask questions for a living. And I always say I won't ever ask questions that I haven't or wouldn't ask of myself. Here is a sampling:

Q) Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?

Yes and no. I always considered myself a writer. However, when I grew up, that road wasn’t clear, so I took several detours and got lost along the way. I got paid for my writing for the first time when I was 34-years old. It was a dream come true (and I still have that pay stub).

Q) What is your favorite thing to do on a Friday night?

Adventure with Neil and Ellie. COVID may have slowed us down for a minute, but we always manage a “Fun Friday” constructing forts, coloring, playing games, having silly rap battles, and making videos.

Q) If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

My Mom. She died the year after we got married, and I never fully recovered. She was way too young. We got gipped. I feel like I was just getting started too, and would have loved to share more of my life with her.

Q) What is your theme song for life?

This is such a tough question since music hits me square in my soul! I'd have to say “Not Afraid” by Eminem would top my list. (Coming in hot at second:  “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. Third is “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi.)

Q) What inspires you?

People, all different types of people. The ones who are going after it and getting it with a smile on their face and kindness in the heart are my favorite kind of people.

Q) If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

I’d have pursued my passion for writing when I was younger instead of waiting for my second act at 34-years old. But then again, I know that all that came before helped mold me into who I am and what I do.

Q) How do you want to be remembered?

That’s not really for me to say, but if I had one wish, it would be that I’d go down laughing, singing, and carrying on. I hope I would remain hopeful to the end. I'm an optimist, and I love people, so I know I'd like to leave nothing but pure, unadulterated love in my wake.

Q) Who inspires you?

My husband, Neil. They say opposites attract, and damn, we exemplify that! His strengths are my weak spots and vice versa. But Neil is everything I could have ever dreamed of, and I am blessed in that arena. We are both chasing our dreams and smashing our goals while having a lot of fun.

Also, my parents who are no longer alive. I miss them every day. They imprinted on me so much about family, life, and loyalty. As the youngest of six, I remain close to my siblings. My siblings inspire me, as well.

Growing up wasn't always pretty, I can only imagine the chaos with so many children, but my parents legacy of family and love is instilled in us, and I cherish our times together. I can feel our parents' love shine through when we are together.
